Top 5 days of the Harvest Celebration

Last night, I posted the calendar of southern gospel concerts during Dollywood’s Harvest Celebration. Today, I thought I would make a top 5 list of what I think are the best concet lineups during the event. I have tried to take an overall view of each day’s groups, otherwise, I would have the two days Gold City sings at #1 and #2.

Feel free to leave comments about what you think are the best days to attend.  I’d like to know what everyone else thinks.

5. Sunday, October 7 – Two of the final (currently scheduled) Crabb Family concerts at 12:30 & 2 PM. Mike and Kelly Bowling have a set to end the day. Plus, Angelina McKeithen will be there. The Kingdom Heirs will have their two sets for those who prefer their southern gospel in quartet form.

4. Wednesday, October 31 – Happy Mark Trammell Trio Day! (Thought I was going to say Happy something else, didn’t you?) My favorite singer and his trio have three sets. Soloist Mark Bishop (my wife LOVES all those Bishops) has two sets. The Crist Family (whom I have never heard) have three sets as well.

3. Wednesday, October 24 -Two of the best family groups in SGM, The Perrys and the Whisnants, have three sets scheduled. The Kingdom Heirs have their two sets. Jerry Goff will be there to tell his old jokes and play “When We All Get To Heaven” on his trumpet.

2. Saturday, October 13 -Three sets of slightly progressive quartet Brian Free & Assurance. Two sets with the vastly under-appreciated Crossway. Three sets with the Tribute Quartet. With this being a Saturday, the Kingdom Heirs will be doing three sets as well.

1. Sunday, October 14 – You start out with three singings by one of the best quartets with Legacy Five. Then, Jeff & Sheri Easter sing twice to add a little country flavor. Throw in three classes at Ed O’Neal University concerts by the Dixie Melody Boys and it makes up what I think is the best lineup of the entire month. Oh, wait. I forgot that the Kingdom Heirs will be singing twice as well.

Honorable Mention: Friday & Saturday, October 26 & 27 – Gold City will be there along with Dottie Rambo, Crystal River, and the Kingdom Heirs. I would pick these two days over any other, but objectively, the overall lineup isn’t as strong these two days.

I wonder if the Kingdom Heirs get paid extra for all this singing. They will be singing six days a week, two concerts a day, with an extra set on four of the Saturdays. It would be interesting to compare their sound on the first day to that on the final day of the celebration.
