Mercy’s Mark Update: Garry Jones releases open letter

The Singing News website has an open letter from Garry Jones on their News page. The letter mentions that Mercy’s Mark is unable to fulfill the remainder of their 2007 schedule and that he has been “presented with many exciting possibilities for the future of Mercy’s Mark and am prayerfully weighing each one.”

So, the bad news is that Mercy’s Mark is done for this year. The good news is that the door is open for their return next year.

I love Mercy’s Mark and I am happy that the group is not dead. Garry Jones is musically brilliant, but if he decides to continue next year, he needs to be 100% positive that the members he hires are a good fit and are in it for the long haul. I know that is much easier said than done and I’m sure he has done that each time he has hired someone, but the next several months to a year are very important to the long-term future of Mercy’s Mark. Garry has to find some stability in the group. With all the changes the group has went through, now a forced hiatus, plus you throw in the unusual way Garry left Signature Sound, I don’t see how you could blame industry types for being weary of doing business with Mercy’s Mark. Will promoters be confident enough that the group will show up to book them? Will the lineup be together long enough to actually record AND release a CD for their record label?

I’m not trying to pull the group down. They are one of my favorites. I know whatever lineup Garry puts together will sound fantastic. I just want them to succeed.

  1. Amen, brother. Very well said, and I do hope they return in 2008, undoubtedly better than ever.

  2. Hey guys,
This thing is not done….. We still have not heard from the other 3 guys in the group. They may have a totally different story to tell about what happened. Watch and see, more will be said about this very soon, I promise you.

  3. I too am hopeful for good things from Mercy’s Mark in the future. I also really enjoy the group, and have enjoyed seeing Garry’s magic musical touch on a quartet again. Here’s hoping that it isn’t ending for good.
