Ricky Atkinson & Compassion Changes

After TK&McRae broke up, I heard rumblings about Troy Peach joining Ricky Atkinson & Compassion along with Loren Harris. That lineup would have been a Wilburns reunion, minus Jackie and Elaine. Turns out, the rumblings were only half right, but the truth is a lot more exciting to me.

Loren Harris is joining Compassion. He is presently working as Church Administrator at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist in Elizabethton, TN. Loren is one of my favorite singers and I’m glad that he’ll be part of another group.

Also joining Compassion will be former Florida Boys and Majesty tenor Greg Cook. When Greg left Majesty, he took a job as minister of music at a church (Peace Haven Baptist, maybe?) in Yadkinville, NC. Greg doesn’t have the highest range in SGM, but he does have a great voice and can really deliver a song and message. He’s also been very friendly whenever I’ve spoke to him at concerts.

While Ricky isn’t one of my favorite singers, he is a great songwriter. With his material along with Loren and Greg’s voices, they should sound awesome. I can’t wait to hear their first project and to catch them in concert.

One thing to point out from the press release is that Loren and Greg will be keeping their church jobs, “so scheduling will be limited and very carefully observed. Family and church first, then singing is the way we feel it should be and thats the way we want it.” I’m sure that played a key role in getting Loren involved in the group.

  1. Greg Cook is a great Arkansas guy! His sister teaches in a large Christian HS here in Little Rock. She also taught my two adult sons when they were students at Arkansas Baptist High School. These folks really do love the Lord, and prove it with their lives of service.
