The Hinson Experience

JChaz posted the following quote in a thread on the Singing News thread over the weekend,

Few groups that had to follow them onstage would deny that they had their work cut out for them after Liberty left the stage… Some wouldn’t even agree to follow them at all. One was The Hinsons… Kinda funny, now that I think about it.

The post reminded me of an experience with the Hinsons back in the mid 80s.  My dad’s group, the Crystal River Boys, was scheduled with the Hinsons at the Hee Haw Village in Pigeon Forge, TN for two weekend concerts.  On Saturday, The Crystal River Boys opened and had a wonderful set.  The Hinsons took the stage and didn’t want to sing.  Someone from the audience finally called out, “Stop talking and start singing or get that other group back up there!”

The next day when we got to the Hee Haw Village to get ready for the concert, the Crystal River Boys were told that they couldn’t use their own sound system.  Apparently, it had been added to the Hinsons’ contract that they were to run sound for any other groups that appeared with them.  Funny that it wasn’t in the contract on Saturday.  Of course, the sound for the Crystal River Boys was awful that day.  Needless to say, the sound was corrected in time for the Hinsons’ set.
