The Band of Gold returns!

UPDATE: I have received confirmation from Gold City that the Band Of Gold Is returning.

According to this post by longtime Singing News forum contributer JChaz, the Band Of Gold is returning to Gold City. JChaz posted that “a traveling buddy of mine is about to start playing drums for Gold City.

Two questions immediately spring to mind…. (1) when? and (2) who is playing bass? Personally, I’d love to see Adam Borden return.

No matter, this is great news for Gold City and their fans.

After many years of reading posts and comments from JChaz, I have no reason to doubt what he says. Hopefully, we’ll receive official confirmation soon.

  3. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Taylor Barnes will be playing bass. Hoppers, Singing Americans, 80’s and 90’s bass player

  5. I saw Gold City last night with their Band of Gold!!!
    It was AWESOME!
I’ve never even seen or heard of these guys before until last night.
    It was a Great Performance!

  6. the band is only doing limited dates, mainly fair dates that have requested a live band. The most noticeable face is that of Daniel Addison that is playing guitars which had the job with jeff & sheri back in late 90’s. bass player Taylor Barnes had a job with the hoppers way back along with another notable quartet. the drummer Kevin Albertson has his first SG gig with the notable Liberty QT that has a great run during the late 80’s and 90’s.

  7. Do you mean the Liberty Qt that operated out of NE Ga from about 1984 until around 1993 or so? I know the guy that ran that group all that time. He sang baritone and wrote a ton of songs that were recorded by big names in southern gospel music like the Kingsmen and the Dixie Melody Boys. He name is Gerald Sweatman. His son, Dustin, sang with the Dixie Melody Boys and now with the Mark Trammell Trio. If this is the same group, I never knew a drummer by the name of Kevin! I always saw Tim, Gerald’s other son, playing the drums!

  8. Same Liberty Quartet….

I want to think Kevin was a member during the end of the group’s run, after Gerald (and presumably his son) left. I’m not sure Gerald “ran” the group. I believe he was just a member.

JChaz (Charlie Sexton) would be the one to ask.
