I got one! Whitaker joins Mike & Kelly

This doesn’t happen often, so when it does, I have to brag a little.  It is my blog, so I think it will be ok.

With no insider tips or information, I predicted the latest personnel change in SGM.  Chris Whitaker, former baritone with N’Harmony, has joined Mike and Kelly Bowling.  Like their former third voice Jeff Snyder (one time baritone for Crystal River), Chris is being billed as their tenor.  You can read the press release from Mike and Kelly here.

The press release again makes no mention of the member Chris is replacing or the group Chris is coming from.  Is this a recent change in southern gospel press releases?  As far as I can recall, it is.  I remember press releases saying something along the lines of, “Group A is proud to announce the addition of Singer A, formerly of Group B.  Singer A will be stepping in for Singer B, who wants to spend more time with his family this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before joining Group C on Thursday“.  Is the economy so bad that groups are afraid to give another group even the slightest publicity of mentioning them by name?  Should I be looking on the bright side and just be happy that not mentioning the old singer means they don’t have to pull out the old lie PR phrase of “spending more time with their family”?

I know southern gospel is an industry, but man…

Don’t all the groups claim to be out there travelling for the same reason?  And I’m not referring to $$$$$$.
