News Around the SG World

There’s a few interesting things going on today around southern gospel music:

  • The Gaither Vocal Band is in the studio working today.  Mark Lowry has a live video feed here.  Aaron Swain is doing play by play via twitter here (should that be doing “tweet by tweet”?).
  • Mickey Gamble of Crossroads Music has started a blog titled Gospeleer, Looks Inside the Gospel Music Business.  Mickey is a forward thinker in the SGM industry and has been a tremendous supporter of my blog and several others and I’m excited to see what he’ll bring up on his blog.
  • It must be vacation time in southern gospel.  Gold City is about to come back from their vacation.  The Perrys started their vacation yesterday.  Blogger Wes Burke is also on vacation this week.  Please pray for everyone’s safety, southern gospel related or not, during the summer vacation season.  Traffic is a lot heavier this time of year.
  • Speaking of Gold City, this month is tenor Steve Ladd’s last with the group.  Their first booking in July is on the fourth, so expect an announcement on the new tenor around the first of the month, if not sooner.
  • Karen Peck & New River’s Devin McGlamery and his wife welcomed a new baby a couple of weeks ago.  Devin also got into the twittering by doing a tweet by tweet while at the hospital.  The following is his tweet announcing the birth:  “Preston Gage McGlamery is here!! 6lbs 11oz 19inch long…thanks for the prayers! Mommy is doing great! Karlyn loves him!”
