LeFevre Quartet becomes Priority

Today, a press release came out announcing the retiring of the Lefevre name in southern gospel music following the death of Eva Mae LeFevre.  The LeFevre Quartet is honoring the wishes of the family and is changing their name to Priority (not to be confused with the Priority Quartet of Texas).  The press release mentions that the current group is not experiencing a change in personnel or style of music, just switching names.

It is also worth mentioning that the group’s website is currently offline.  Both http://www.mikelefevrequartet.com and http://www.lefevrequartet.com give a parked or under construction notice.

The name Priority isn’t a complete newcomer to southern gospel music.  Back in the late 80s and early 90s, a group by that name was signed to a label on Homeland Records.  The group’s biggest “claim to fame” is that the Cathedrals selected their tenor, Kurt Young, to replace the departing Danny Funderburke.  After the infamous Dove Awards performance, Kurt returned to Priority to re-assume the tenor position.

  1. Hopefully, I’m remembering this correctly…
Kirk Sullivan left the contemporary vocal group, Truth, to form a group called Priority in the late 1980s. He later returned to Truth…then left again along with three other members of Truth to form 4Him.
